Story of My Life in Verse: A poem

He didn’t want me
He refused to sign
The paper to say
Yes she’s mine

He didn’t want me
I wouldn’t give him
The power
Between my legs

He didn’t want me
I could not be manipulated
I didn’t accept mediocrity
I stood up

He didn’t want me
Not only was I
Not flashy
I was broken

He didn’t want me
I was too strong
I was too smart
I was a threat

He didn’t want me
I made him feel less of a man
He didn’t tell me
Just stopped taking my calls

He didn’t want me
I made him feel
Too much
He said eventually

And they call me
Ice Queen
Cold Hearted
Man Hater

I didn’t need him
To want me
Or love me
Or feed me

I loved me enough
To see my true value
And wait for one
Who saw it too
