Read Your World: Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019

Multicultural Children's Book Day

A few months ago I talked about the importance of representation in literature.  in the same vein I am proud to support the 2019 Multicultural Children’s Book Day by bringing you a review of  2 multicultural books written by Dr Crystal Bowe.

Multicultural Children's Book Day Dr Crystal Bowe

Dr. Crystal Bowe is a family medicine physician who has written 2 children’s books (Doc Like MommyThe Patience Song) and published one coloring book (Doc Like Mommy Coloring Book)! Crystal pulled the inspiration for Doc, Like Mommy from her real-life experiences and relationship with her daughter. She is also a returning Author Sponsor for MCBD2019!

Multicultural Children's Book Day doc like Mommy

If you liked the simplicity of my book you’re going to love this book. It’s simple and easy to read.  Younger children will definitely enjoy this .  It tells the age old story of a little girl inspired by her mom.  It is a great book to help children understand what doctors do. It reminds children that they can be anything they want to be when they grow up.  You can buy this book in Kindle or Paperback format on Amazon. You can also find the companion book Doc like Daddy featuring a cute little boy and his dad.

Multicultural Children's Book Day The Patience Song

This is a great book for teaching patience to kids and comes with a bonus song (music included)

In the Patience Song we meet Isabel; an impatient little girl.  she has trouble waiting.  To help her develop patience mom and dad sing the patience some to her.  By the end of the book Isabel is singing the patience some to mom and dad when they are being impatient.  In addition to being a multicultural book the patience song very subtly breaks down gender roles; dad cooks dinner and both parents participate in child care.  At the end of the book you will find the patience some with accompanying music so you can teach the song to your little one.

These are great books to add to any library and children of all ages and ethnicities will enjoy them.   Read on for more details on multicultural book day and head over o https://multiculturalchildrensbookday.com/blog/ to participate.

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019 (1/25/19) is in its 6th year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom. Our mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators.
