As a child I would always seat like this. For me sitting cross legged comes naturally. Others find it very difficult. For help sitting in this position focus on hip opening poses such as lunges and pigeon.

One hip is probably tighter from running. Notice if you always exhale on the same foot. Do asymmetrical poses to balance.
