A few weeks ago I told you about Multicultural Children’s book day. Then I had my wisdom tooth pulled and ended up stuck in bed for weeks. Even though I missed the big day I would still like to share my review of the lovely book that I received from the author.
Roo the Red Tuk Tuk is a magical little book! It whisks you away to another land and immerses you deep in another culture. It is an experience like none other.
The book takes place in Sri Lanka. It’s all about the adventure of Roo: a Tuk Tuk. If like me you have never been to Singapore you may not know what a Tuk Tuk is. Don’t worry the book explains it all. A Tuk Tuk is a form of transportation that is sometimes referred to as a rickshaw. It is covered, has three wheels, and it looks like a motorcycle taxi hybrid. I imagine that it’s a great way to get around in a crowded city!
The story takes place all over the city of Colombo. Through the richly descriptive language and colorful illustrations you learn about Tuk Tuk races and life in the city of Colombo. I don’t want to give the ending away and it is the sweetest most heartwarming ending.
This book is perfect for young readers.The little ones will love to have it read to them! It will keep their attention and keep them entertained while learning about another culture. Any child in your life will be happy to receive this book. It will be a great addition to any library!

She is a teacher, actor, author, book reviewer and mother of two boys. As a teacher of Drama and English Language with 20 years’ experience, and a mother of two sons who love story time, she finds inspiration in the little everyday details of life. Although all her books are based in her home country of Sri Lanka they are generic enough for an international audience. Her greatest wish is to Educate & Entertain and introduce Sri Lankan culture and wildlife to the world.
