We all have dreams. Big or small, all our dreams are important. Holding on to your dreams can be hard. When you find that thing you are supposed to be doing, don’t let anything stand in your way. The Bhagavad Gita says “It is better to do your own duty badly, than to perfectly do another’s: you are safe from harm when you do what you should be doing.” Your heart knows the truth, listen to it.
Sometimes our dreams can seem quite crazy. When you have finally decided to reach for your dreams there’s gonna be haters. A book that I read recently put it this way. The moment you decide that you want to fast someone comes along and offers you cake. You being tempted then say to be polite I will eat the cake and fast tomorrow. Stand firm to your convictions that your dreams are worth pursuing. Don’t let the haters get you down. You can do it. Just when I committed myself completely to being a yoga teacher I got three job offers in two weeks. It was very hard to say no to job security but in the end I just could not give up teaching yoga. The job that I will say yes to is the one that does not require giving up on my dream.
Don’t be afraid to dream big. Whatever you dream you can achieve. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we subconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson
I have been dreaming of going to California for the longest while. I’ve been to every state on the West Coast, including Alaska, except California. Since before my BFF went to gad school in 2010 we have been dreaming that she will get stationed in California and that we will have a cross country road trip. It’s finally happened!!! I still can’t quite wrap my head around it. I finally get my cross country road trip. The thing is I don’t know if I will be able to afford it. I really cannot afford to fly to the East Coast then fly back to St Lucia from the West Coast. However, I am not giving up. This will happen. Come to my yoga class, send me some miles, contribute to my dream. If all you can do is cheer me on the drown out the haters that’s good too.
Let’s reach for the stars together. Let’s keep dreaming. It doesn’t matter if it a huge life altering dream like a career change or a seemingly insignificant dream like a cross country road trip, dream. Then make a plan and take the steps to reach your dream. Stick to it and don’t give up. You can reach your dreams if you believe.
Do you have one “crazy’ dream that you are reaching for?
I love this post and I love that you are sticking to your dreams! You are an inspiration to me. My dream is to run across country and to become a professor; you’ve reminded me that I will do it as long as I keep my focus clear!
You can totally do it.
