Crowd funding is very popular these days. Platforms such as Kickstarter have been featured on shows such as 2 Broke Girls and late night comedy shows. You know a trend is big when comedians are making fun of it.
A few weeks ago I decided to see what all the fuss was about. After all I own a start up in a rural community on a small island. People want to contribute to that. Right? So after looking at Kickstarter and a few other platforms I decided to go with Indiegogo. I set up my campaign and its live. You can find it here. You may have a few questions, so I will try to anticipate and answer them.
1. Why do you need funding at this time?
I planned on starting my yoga business after saving some capital. Unfortunately, I lost my job unexpectedly this summer right after finishing yoga teacher training. I took that as the universe pushing me out of my comfort zone to do the thing that I really love.
2. What will you use this funding for?
There are a few things I would like to accomplish. I would like to register with yoga alliance to show that my teaching meets their standards. Also registering would give me access to resources that I can use to grow as a teacher. I would like to purchase mats, blocks and other props. This will encourage people to participate in my classes who may not want the commitment of purchasing their own mat. I would like to purchase liability insurance to ensure my business is sustainable in case on any incidents or injuries.
3.How will this funding change the world?
Beginning next week I will be volunteering at my local after school program, teaching yoga to the kids. I hope it will help them build confidence, be more mindful and more attentive in class. I am also hoping that my studio will inspire people who may be intimidated by more conventional exercise to get up and get moving.
4. I cannot donate what else can I do to help?
The smallest thing can make a difference. Share this post on social media and invite your friends to do the same. If you are in St Lucia, or will be traveling there soon, and could like to donate your time or gently used equipment simply contact me. I will be happy to accept whatever you can offer.
Thank you so much for reading this post.
Namaste.
