I use to be really into Trader Joe’s grapefruit sea salt body scrub. It was the perfect pick me up. I made some coconut milk from coconuts on New Years Day and had some left over husk. I remember my mom telling me stories about rubbing coconut husk on her skin as a little girl. From this the idea for a body scrub was born. I noticed a mild case of uticaria on my shoulders neck and face. I’m not sure what its from. I think its a combination of not drinking enough water (we still have no running water), the ham reaction and all the perfume exposure at church. I think my body is trying to tell me it needs more of a detox. Normally I would do the elimination diet but I really don’t have the time to commit to this right now. Instead I will be using herbs and juice for cleansing and detoxification of the liver. I will post as I go along. I’m just going to listen to my body. Today I detoxed by exfoliating. The skin is a pretty awesome and often ignored organ. Yes I said organ. The skin does so many great things. It keep bad stuff out of our bodies, regulates or temperature and gets rid of waste. Exfoliating gets rid of dead cells and stimulate cell turnover in the skin. Using quick brushing movements stimulates circulation and the lymphatic system. Here’s what I used: 1 cup coconut husk 1 cup salt 2 tbsp grapefruit juice
- Mix everything together.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute.
- Apply.
It smelled heavenly coming out of the microwave. I rubbed it all over my body and had my mom do my back. Then I remembered that body brushing advocates moving everything towards the heart. So, starting with the legs I used quick brushing movements then rinse off. I used a wet wash cloth to wipe the extra oil off my skin. I felt revitalized and my skin feels soft and smooth. Have you ever made your own beauty products?
This is great – and I think exfoliation is a key part, often neglected, of any detox.
