The yoga sutras say that (loosely translated) disease prevents us from achieving our goals and general happiness. They also suggest that we should be compassionate to those less fortunate than us. This is the reason why I like to share yoga poses, my experiences living with fibromyalgia and chronic pain as well as recipes on this blog. When I came across this open letter to Dr Drew I went through a range of emotions. Ultimately, I decided I would simply share it with you. I decided to turn his ignorance and insensitivity into a positive and use it to educate my readers about invisible illnesses.
Being diagnosed with endometriosis, allergies, migraines, and fibromyalgia have helped me lead a fuller more meaningful life. Without the diagnosis I would be in pain all the time. Doctors have suggested that there is nothing wrong with me. Persons have suggested that I need to have more sex or have a baby. The great thing is for every negative person I encounter I have many who love and support me. I have friends and family who let me pick the restaurant and slow down when I can’t keep up. Through education we can get closer to a cure and end the pain.
